"Mother" Fish letters, 1862.

This collection consists of two letters written by Edmund Fish's mother, on August 10th and 21st, 1862, from Partridge Island to her son in Bellevue Hospital, New York. She writes about a local "boy" who was "taken prisoner at Culpepper in the last battle between Pope and Jackson."

"Mother" Fish lived in Partridge Island, New York. Her name is unknown. Edmund Fish was a Union soldier during the Civil War; in August of 1862 he was in Bellevue Hospital, New York University Medical College in New York City.
